IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COVID-19

Your health and well-being are our highest priority. At all times, we take the highest level of precautions to prevent the spread of infection, including the new coronavirus. You can learn more about these protocols, as well as how you can help keep yourself and those around you healthy, from the American Dental Association’s website.

If you are healthy, there is no need to cancel your regularly scheduled dental appointment. We do ask you arrive on time, rather than early, for your appointments to minimize the amount of time patients spend in the waiting area.

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms or if you or those you are in close contact with have been exposed to the new coronavirus, contact our office and we will assist you with rescheduling your appointment for a later date to make sure you are free of COVID-19 symptoms. There will be no cancellation or rescheduling fees during this time.

If you or someone you are in close contact with have recently traveled to a country with outbreaks of COVID-19 or if you have been exposed to someone who was diagnosed with COVID-19 or quarantined as a precaution, wait 14 days before making an appointment to make sure you are free of COVID-19 symptoms.

We will continue to closely monitor updates from the CDC, the ADA, the World Health Organization and our state officials. In the case of new information, we will keep you informed of any changes to our procedures or appointments.

We ask you to use your best judgement and caution surrounding upcoming appointments and to call us if you have any questions about your appointment or oral health needs. We also encourage you to follow prevention and safety guidelines established by the CDC.

We have made some changes in order to protect patients and staff:

  • We request that you come alone to your appointment to limit the number of patients in the reception area. If someone must come with you, we ask that they remain in the car.
  • Our office will communicate with you before your appointment to ask some screening questions. A copy of these questions is attached to the email.
  • Anyone entering office is mandated by CDC to wear some type of mask or nose and mouth covering.
  • Upon entering the office, we will take you temperature and re-ask screening questions.
  • We have hand sanitizer in the office foyer that we request you use upon entering. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
  • If you need a pillow for your neck or back, please bring your own. We will no longer be able to provide.
  • Upon entering the treatment area, you will be asked to swish with antimicrobial mouth rinse.
  • Our reception area will no longer offer magazines or brochures, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that youre offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
  • We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

Dentist Fort Myers, FL - Michael D. Sheffield, DMD

Dr. Sheffield is a true physician of the "masticatory system", not just looking at the teeth, but how the muscle, jaw bone, jaw joint and teeth function together. At your first appointment, you will receive a comprehensive examination including x-rays, cancer screening and in some situations, photographs and study molds.

With this information, Dr. Sheffield will be able to consult with you to determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Once the plan is established, the pace at which treatment is completed is up to you. As a courtesy to our patients, we will file and accept assignment of your dental insurance. We also offer Care Credit, a payment plan service, that allows you to spread out the cost of your treatment.
